Yup, Screwed Again.

Surprise, surprise, the Timberwolves did not get the #1 pick in the draft! Shocking, I know. If there's one thing to take solace in about the Clips owning our pick in 2012, it's that we won't have to endure this annual debacle next year. There will be no getting our hopes up just to have them dashed. Instead, we can rest comfortably knowing that, as usual, our team is screwed from the get-go.
Some quick points...
1. I know the Cavs just endured one of the biggest back-stabs in the history of pro sports and deserve something "good" to happen to them, but they go so stink'n lucky. Not only did they get the #1 pick but they got it with the worser of their two picks, which means they will be selecting #1 and #4. Granted, they'll be drafting some one of the caliber of Anus Kanter (if Kahn doesn't get to him first) with that #4 pick in this weak draft, but it's better than #1 and #9.
2. So last year, Abe Polin's widow got the #1 pick, and this year Dan Gilbert's chronically ill child pulled it off for the Cavs. Sensing a trend here? Can we start making plans to send CW Jr. and DeROK Jr. to the lottery in 2013? Their hardship, you ask? Being raised as Wolves fans.
3. The Clippers must be ticked that they traded away the #1 pick in the draft just to jettison Baron Davis. Well, until they look ahead and realzie that they're getting the #1 pick in a much better draft next year from us.
4. Cleveland's Clippers pick was already in the Top 3. How certain were you that the Wolves logo was on that #4 card? I would have bet the house on it. Maybe ABABU helped us out after all.
5. How great was the look on David Kahn's face when the Wolves card was pulled for the #2 pick? He clearly wanted to be the "hero" that brought back the #1 selection soooooooooo badly.
6. Honestly, getting the #2 selection isn't the worst thing in the world. I'm not totally sold on Kyrie Irving and having him and Rubio could have gotten a little awkward. Let's hope that Kahn plays it smart and goes with Derrick Williams. (He has a nice smile, right?)
7. At least we have something else to complain about now. That's about all we have to hang onto here at this point.
I am sure there will be a TON of articles about the TWolves and the lottery today. Here's another:
@CollegeWolf Completely blown out of proportion. Worse than Perez Hilton. Look at the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLzYrfhttT0&feature=player_embedded#at=167
@CollegeWolf It is towards the end...he is obviously goofing around, trying to make people laugh, and being sarcastic. Seriously Adrian Wojnorwhatthefuck has brough tthe melodramatic nonsense to the forefront of NBA commentary. Good riddance
@WallyWorld Concur. He's good, but he's also sooooo overly dramatic sometimes.
If we take Burks at #2 then I'll be drooling for Josh Selby. If he has his head on straight he'll be a player. I didn't see a lot of him but in the game KU got knocked out he came in was the fastest player I've seen in the NCAA in years. The fact that he couldn't get his layups to fall or his jumpers to find anything but iron was a bummer, but never the less a very interesting prospect.
@Pants80 Yeah that' d be nice. Even though I like Burks and just defended him, I dont think he is worthy of a #2 pick. Knight is better value. Williams = best value if we have a trade in place to move back 1 or 2 spots for Burks/Knight.
By the way, how sweet is Livefyre? You can just jump from one comment to another in real-time. I can't wait until our forum is run on this system.
I am starting to buy into the Brandon Knight idea. I worry about his inconsistency and turnovers, but I have to admit I have a general good feeling about him. Maybe it's the success of Calipari players.
It's too bad Utah doesnt really need Williams AT ALL, otherwise we could flip the #2 back. I see them taking Knight at 3 if we don't. Or something awful/stupid/vomit worthy will happen like Flynn/2 for Bell/3 and a 2nd rounder.
Either way something is going to happen next month that will really piss everyone off. Regardless, our final position exceeded my expectations
@WallyWorld Alec Burks agent must have loved the draft order. #2 and #3 being teams that have a open pussy cyst at SG.
@Pants80 I think Burks is pretty close to Knight and will be amongst the top players in tier 2 of this draft. And by top players I mean he will average 6.8 points his rookie year on 39% shooting.
@WallyWorld @CollegeWolf "As we learned with Turner, whichever team drafts Burks will need to put him in a role that suits his strengths, alongside teammates that complement him. From DraftExpress"
Uhhh ohhh. We need player who will thrive when put in the worst possible position to succeed.
@Pants80 @WallyWorld That would be sooooo awesome. I'd pay as well.
NBA teams have access to those sorts of highlights. Presumably that includes the TWolves, as well.
@WallyWorld @CollegeWolf Item to file under Things I'd pay for if they Existed. If there was a way to pay $10-20 for an hour long scouting clip reel of everyone in the top 50 I'd pay it.
@CollegeWolf @Pants80 Cool, enjoy all 45 pounds of your favorite POWER!!!!! forward Anthony Randolph after we trade Love.
@WallyWorld @Pants80
"Burks is a slasher and shot creator....are you going to start using the name of a position to frame an argument? The things you come up with sometimes...."
- Just trying to keep everyone on their toes!
@CollegeWolf @Pants80 "A good scorer who shows the ability to effectively score in a variety of ways, extremely proficient for such a young player ... Very smooth in the open floor converting impressive dunks and ally oops with regularity ... Has a soft touch and deft body control allowing him to effectively convert drives to the rim ... Shows a quick first step and the speed to get by opponents off the dribble ... Has the makings of being an excellent outside shooter, getting great lift, a high release, fluid motion, plus he's a 78% ft shooter .."

While the words "Fantastic athlete" are not used....he uses his athletic ability to create his own shot.
@CollegeWolf @Pants80 Burks is a slasher and shot creator....are you going to start using the name of a position to frame an argument? The things you come up with sometimes....:)
@WallyWorld @Pants80 Not good for Burks if Knight is a better shooter. Considering Burks is supposed to be a stud SHOOTING guard... Still, I'd take him in the 8-14 range since there are literally no other SG's in the draft besides super uber sleeper stud Marshon Brooks from Providence.
@WallyWorld @Pants80 Says who? I haven't seen anything about Burks being a "fantastic athlete." Knight, on the other hand, is one of the best in NCAA last year.
@WallyWorld @CollegeWolf Knight was the better prospect heading in the college. That shouldn't be a make or break but it factors in.
@CollegeWolf @Pants80 Bottom line you are getting much of the same from both. Sort of. Knight has more PG skills, Burks is more of a slashing wing. Knight is probably the better shooter. Both are young and had great years for different reasons. Both have that ability to play in iso situations and break guys down off of the dribble...which this team has needed for years and years. Again, if it was one or the other I probably would go Knight, too. But I also think Burks is a sleeper in the top 10.
@WallyWorld @CollegeWolf Interesting. I honestly thing the Wolves don't know what they will do. It Knight, Burks or Williams give them the workout of their lives the spot could be theirs.
@CollegeWolf @Pants80 Burks is a fantastic athlete. Both are streaky shooters.
@WallyWorld I'm not sure how good of an athlete Burks is. The two games I saw him in were underwhelming but he really did play well in a lot of games. He could go between 2-10 and not shock me.
@CollegeWolf @Pants80 Based on what? Both are 18-19 years of age and had great seasons. The only thing in Knight's favor is that he played for Kentucky...dont get me wrong I like them both, and would probably take Knight as well....but Burks should be in the conversation as well.
Granted, we REALLY need a SG... and I'd much rather have Burks than Raja Bell (all but inevitable.)
@WallyWorld @Pants80 Knight is a better athlete, and has far more Upside Potentiability than Burks.
@WallyWorld If you go the Knight route, then you ABSOLUTELY have to fire Rhombus. Look what he's done to Johnny Flynn. I'm not saying Flynn would be a star if not for Rhombus, but there's no reason he should be THIS bad.
@DeROK82 @WallyWorld Would anyone shed a tear if Rhombus were fired? For eff's sake, I can't believe he hasn't been already!?!?
@CollegeWolf @WallyWorld Like everything for the past several years, it's all aobut the money...
@DeROK82 Any young player in addition to Flynn has been awful. Ellington has shown the most promise. I'm more worried about Rubio...can you imagine??
@WallyWorld Hooooray! About time! There is still plenty of room on the Brandon Knight bandwagon! @Pants80
Oh man...I can see it now....we somehow flip the #2 in a deal for Steve Nash.
Chill out. We have a 75% chance of not getting #1. I am fairly content here. It sucks, but we could be sitting at #4 right now.
@WallyWorld Hard to be happy solely because the WORST POSSIBLE SCENARIO didn't happen.
@CollegeWolf @DeROK82 I can see it. The Beasley comparisons are pretty accurate. Williams, though, has a nice combination of physicality in his play, and has a really nice jumpshot. Beasley is more of a finesse guy, while Williams attacks.
@DeROK82 haha. This is why, fit-wise Burks is probably the better bet than Knight. But I agree with Pants...Knight could work, but it probably isn't the most ideal situation.
@DeROK82 @CollegeWolf @WallyWorld How does Irving work better with Rubio than Knight? Knight was playing a lot at SG this college season. Plus he is bigger and a better athlete than Irving.
@CollegeWolf @WallyWorld I agree. I just don't think Knight is going to help our cause much more with Rubio coming over. I don't see him and Ricky co-existing like Rubio and Irving would hve. If Rubio doesn't then Knight makes a lot of sense.
@DeROK82 @WallyWorld Problem with Williams is, because of his size and physical abilities, I think he'll be very under-whelming in the NBA. Not necessarily a "bust", but there's no way he'll be anywhere near the best player from this draft class.
He's too small to play PF all the time in the NBA. And he's not quick enough, or suited, to play SF.
@CollegeWolf @WallyWorld I think the only move is to go for the BPA and take Derrick Williams. He might not fit our roster, but when you finish dead last, you grab the talent and sort out the roster later.
Trying to get cute with Kanter, Knight, or whoever isn't going to create enough of a shift in our record to avoid Clippergeddon. The worst thing this franchise could do would be to hinder our future building just to desperately try and boost our win total enough to avoid giving the Clippers the #1 pick. We're losing the pick no matter what whether it's #1 or #32, so we just have to deal with it. That shouldn't be our focus.
We need to draft Williams, bring Rubio over, and get a real coach. Then pull some sort of trade with Love/Beasley/AR to shape out the roster better.
@WallyWorld @DeROK82 Kahn is going to blow it SOMEHOW. Of that, I have no doubt.
@CollegeWolf @DeROK82 Completely concur it's a stupid, stupid, flawed, idiotic system. Completely concur it's suspicious the Cavs won it, even though the league has absolutely zero incentive to reward such a mismananged franchise....but in a vacuum I am very content with the #2 pick in this draft. It absolutely sucks missing out on #1, and to the Cavs, and to that end let's whine away. But, the #2 pick is still a nice asset...that Kahn will blow on Bitchsmack Buyombo
@WallyWorld @CollegeWolf Maybe I'm being a whiny brat for complaining about getting the best pick in franchise history, but the bottom line is that we were the worst team and should be picking first. The lottery is retarded and I've been saying it for years. There was one player that fit this team well and now we're going to miss out on him in all likelihood.
And you can't really say "Well the Cavs were the 2nd worst team by two games so it's not that injust" since they won with the Clippers pick.
