Wolves Updates 9/14

Al Jefferson may have been on to something.

Last season he vehemently stood by his belief that the Boston Celtics didn’t need Greg Oden. He said it during an 18-game losing streak. He said it after one of the worst seasons in franchise history. No Oden. No questions.

His staunch opinion seemed so young and naïve at the time. But now the 22 year old may prove to be wise beyond his years. On Thursday, Oden underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee and could miss the entire 2008 season.

Wolves Updates 9/13

When that Donaghy thing happened, everyone thought it would dominate the rest of the NBA's offseason ... then the Celts pulled off the KG Trade and everyone shifted into 'Wow, the Celtics are good again and KG finally landed on a good team, this is amazing!' mode. The Donaghy story only had a weeklong shelf life. David Stern never got enough credit for forcing Kevin McHale to make that KG deal.

Once it became apparent that Garnett could become a Celtic, Stern said, the NBA held the release of the 2007-08 regular-season schedule to get more Boston games on national television. Stern added that the trade, which was made July 31, would be good for both Boston and Minnesota.

"I like to see stability," Stern said. "But in the collective bargaining agreement, veterans like KG get to approve where they go. It was clear to me that it was something he was in favor of at this point. I think he's paid his dues in this league to be able to have that option. He's not the first, nor will be the last, future Hall of Famer to move.

Wolves Updates 9/9

From Steve Bulpett/Boston Herald:
As for how things will work out, talks with trusted NBA front office people have actually yielded two distinct schools of thought. It’s accepted that Al Jefferson [stats] is going to be good, and those who think Kevin Garnett has a lot of mileage think it’s going to be hard for the Celts to watch Big Al excel as KG winds down. But most of those who question the C’s do so because they believe in Gerald Green and his potential, and they believe the locals gave up an awful lot.
