Pinckney, 44, was entering his fifth season as an assistant to Jay Wright at Villanova, a school he led to the 1985 NCAA championship. He had developed into a top recruiter and a tutor to the Wildcats' big men.
Reportedly, the Timberwolves thought they had a deal with Pinckney last week, but he turned it down. Team president Kevin McHale came up with another offer this week and Pinckney accepted, although final details were being worked out yesterday.
The 2007 national champion Gator basketball team will be honored in a ceremony 20 minutes before Florida's kickoff against Tennessee at Florida Field. Players and coaches will be presented with their championship rings after a brief video tribute.
"It means a lot," Brewer said. "It's what we worked so hard for, to get a chance to celebrate with the fans and our teammates."
Charley Rosen/Fox Sports lists Garnett as one of the players who will " will be under particular scrutiny" this season.
