Twenty-four minutes of precision and a 62-54 halftime lead fell away
once again Wednesday, when the Wolves -- in the third quarter's first
seven minutes -- committed three times as many turnovers (six) as they
had in the entire first half (two). The Warriors outscored them 37-17
in the quarter, including an 11-0 run that lasted more than four
minutes.
"I played on a team like this before,'' said Harrington, comparing the
2004-05 Atlanta Hawks, who went 13-69, to the current group in
Minnesota.
"When you're a young team, you come out with a lot of energy and start
making shots,'' he said. "But when a veteran team decides to shut you
down on defense, you lose your confidence, and that's what we had to
do. Once we did that, I felt that we had a good chance at winning.''
Wolves record: 3-21
From Stephen Litel/Hoopsworld:
Coach Wittman's press conference was quite interesting after the game.
Usually he walks into the media room and immediately takes questions,
as he finds himself again flabbergasted at how the Wolves were able to
let that night's game slip away. Tonight, he stepped up to the podium
and began to give a speech on his team's inability to take a punch.
In essence, he thought the game was over at the first timeout after halftime.
Wittman told Marko Jaric to remain at his downtown condo a few blocks away so the ill starting guard wouldn't spread his germs to a team that after Friday's home game against Indiana is headed on a five-game trip that starts Saturday in New Orleans and hits the West Coast after Christmas. Veterans Antoine Walker (ankle) and Greg Buckner (calf) also continued to be sidelined on a night when Craig Smith played ill, rookie Corey Brewer played with a hip pointer injured in practice Tuesday and Wittman learned the "good news" that exploratory arthroscopic surgery on veteran center Theo Ratliff's knee could keep him out only another six weeks.
Marko Jaric missed the game with the flu, and Gerald Green took
advantage with 18 points and eight rebounds in 30 minutes of burn.

Wassup guys...getting set for the Celtics game, which is coming up in a few minutes on ESPN. Boston has won nine-straight, and currently stands at 20-2...meanwhile, the Pistons enter tonight at 17-7. KG's stat line for the season, thus far: 18.5 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 3.7 APG. Should be an excellent game, without doubt.
*KG has a ridiculous +/- rating-- he's a + 26.9 this season.
*More Celtics stats: Pierce is averaging 20.9 PPG, and Allen is averaging 19.2 PPG.
*Looking forward to seeing Flipnosis, as well...man, if you'd have told me in 2003-04 that Flip would be coaching the Pistons and KG would be playing for the Celtics in four years, I'd have called you crazy.
*Doris Burke is no Erin Andrews. Anyways, the game's about to tip-off:
First Quarter:
*Just looking at KG's reaction after drawing the Sheed foul, the revitalization of the Big Ticket is immediately apparent. You wouldn't have seen that fist-pumping reaction last season.
*How do you stop this team? If you have KG covered, Ray Allen will fly in and nail a floater in the paint.
*Love the move by Rajon Rondo...and on the next possession, he hits a jumper. He's gotta be taking the media's coverage of the Celtics personally...Rondo's really gone under the radar.
*What's gotten into Rajon Rondo? More importantly, what the hell has happened to Detroit's guards? Why aren't they getting a body on Rondo? Rajon leads all scorers with eight points, as Flipnosis takes the timeout.

Theo Ratliff underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday night at 8
p.m., and Wittman said that according to Ratliff, there was a slight
meniscus tear that was repaired. More information on the surgery will
be available shortly.

-Head coach Randy Wittman said that Greg Buckner and Antoine Walker
remain day-to-day, while Marko Jaric missed shootaround due to illness.
This guy is really, really good. He has an unerring sense of what really
counts. He can write circles around just about anyone in the profession. He
offers tangible evidence and hard-to-qualify opinions in appropriate doses. He's
cynical enough to see through a lot of what doesn't deserve our time, but doesn't
sneer for effect alone.
Most importantly, he legitimately appears to be
enjoying what he's doing...
Golden State Warriors coach Don Nelson said he believes veteran point guard Troy Hudson's career is finished because of chronic injuries. Hudson is bothered by an injured left hip and this latest setback, Hudson said, could end his career,
"I think Troy is probably done," Nelson said. "I don't think he'll play again."
I guess they are putting microphones on NBA coaches for nationally
televised games. That is the buzz I've been hearing around the
league. I am really surprised the networks and the coaches decided to
do this. I just want to know who at the TV network has the job of
listening in to the coach the whole game and trying to figure out what
they can put on the air and what they can't play. In addition, most
coaches have their right hand man that they talk to privately back and
forth during the game. To draw some sort of parallel, think about
someone having your family miked up for a week. To me it's tough to
imagine that. In fairness, the leauge does promise that it won't use
material that is too over the top, but that means the only thing
they'll be able to play on TV is the real generic stuff which isn't too
interesting anyway.
David Thorpe/ESPN ranks Corey Brewer at #9 on his list of this week's top 10 rookies.
Unbeaten at home and winners of nine consecutive games entering
tonight’s game against Detroit, Garnett’s 20-2 Boston Celtics have tied
the once again proud franchise’s record for best start and are pointed
toward 70 victories. Their start also is among the 10 best in NBA
history while the Wolves 3-20 start is among the worst in NBA history.

I'll be flipping back and forth between the Celtics and Wolves games tonight (though I'll more than likely spend most of the time on the Celtics game), and will be live blogging those two games. Boston takes on Detroit at 6:00 CST on ESPN, and the Wolves play Golden State at 7:00 on FSN.
So stop on by, and hang out as we keep tabs on a 20-2 team and a 3-20 team tonight.

Al Jefferson, rookie Corey Brewer and some teammates treated 22 area
kids, all of whom are up for adoption, to lunch before taking the kids
on a shopping spree at Target.
This is the third year the Wolves' Fast Break Foundation has hosted the event.
Kare 11 has video and you can click here for a photo gallery from the day.
For the Wolves, G Greg Buckner (calf) and F Antoine Walker (ankle)
missed practiced Tuesday and both will likely miss tonight's game. G
Randy Foye (knee) and C Theo Ratliff (knee) are out. Ratliff was
scheduled to have surgery Tuesday afternoon. Results of the surgery
should be known today.

Corey Brewer is struggling shooting the ball. But how
bad is it? Well, he ranks dead last in the NBA in accuracy for any
player with a minumum of 100 shot attempts.
Jefferson's teammates say they are impressed with his work ethic and humility.
"He works every day to get better and works on his weaknesses, which makes him a better player," guard Greg Buckner says. "I'm a tough-love guy, and he's one of those guys who can accept tough love and constructive criticism."
Jefferson says he is still close to several of his former Celtics
teammates, but there isn't a part of him that wishes he were still in
Boston...
Walker isn't saying the Wolves are great team, but it is one that
definitely should be winning more. His suggestion? Stop taking things
one day at a time.
"We have to look at a week coming up and set a goal," he said. "We need
to say, 'Let's get two of the next three games.' We need to put it on
ourselves. Look at our losses, the way we're losing. The teams that are
beating us aren't playing that much better than us. We make some bad
plays down the stretch."
Also from Youngblood:
Wittman took guard Marko Jaric aside after practice Tuesday and
talked to him about regaining his aggressive attitude on the court...

Setting: March Madness 2007, Round 2. Ohio State -vs- Xavier.
